American farmers and processors take pride in the fact that U.S. cheeses, wines and meats are demanded around the world. Unfortunately, the European Union has sought to monopolize generic terms like “parmesan,” “bologna” and “chateau” as a means of shutting competition out of growing export destinations. The Safeguarding American Value-Added Exports (SAVE) Act would direct the U.S. government to take measures to preserve international market access that supports dairy, meat and wine producers’ bottom line.
